From budget hotels to five star establishments that figures in the list of some of the best hotels in Asia, Nepal offers a wide range of accommodation options. As tourism is one of the largest employment generating industries in the country, there is no dearth of facilitators and trained manpower in the tourism industry, especially in the hospitality sector. Most hotels in Nepal, especially in Kathmandu and Pokhara, strive to keep up with the changing trends in hotel industry by designing and offering guest services in tune with the latest global trend. Blending both local and global styles, most establishments have adopted traditional style of hospitality with western system of management in running their establishments. Listed below are some of the facilities provided by hotels in major tourist destinations.     

A. Kathmandu Hotels

As Nepal’s popularity as a MICE destination is on the rise, Kathmandu’s hospitality industry has risen up to the challenge by offering accommodation especially designed for ‘business travelers,’ and in-house conference and event facilities that are on par with the best in the industry.

1. Five Star Hotels

Most of these hotels are located centrally, near business and tourist hubs, and have wide sprawling grounds. On offer, at these hotels, are all amenities provided by a five-star rated establishment in a luxurious ambience that is traditional as well as modern. Accommodations in five star hotels are generally divided into standard, deluxe or family suites and premium suites. Rooms and room-rates are categorized according to facilities provided, size of the room and furnishings. Apart from providing ‘five-starred’ amenities, all these hotels have multi-lingual staff, free high speed Wi-Fi, Spas & wellness centres, fitness studios, valet/butler services, Casinos, Conference and Banquet Halls, Business Centres etc.

The conference halls are fitted with state-of-the-art audio visual equipments and have seating capacities of 30 to 1000 guests. The hotels’ board meeting and conference or banquet halls provide options for smaller business meetings or large scale conferences and events that involve a gathering of 1000+ guests. The large manicured lawns and landscaped gardens provide ample space for outdoor events. 

2. Four Star Hotels

Four Star hotels in Kathmandu offer quality accommodation and facilities like 24-hour room service, lobby with a seating area, multi-cuisine restaurants, café, bar, free internet access, recreation centre, business centre and conference and banquet halls. Hotel accommodation includes well-appointed standard & double rooms and luxurious suites. For conference and business meetings, the hotels have spacious halls, equipped with latest audio-visual equipments. The conference halls in most four star hotels can accommodate about 700 guests. Outdoor space for theme parties or exhibitions can accommodate up to 1000 guests.

3. Three Star Hotels

Three star hotels in Kathmandu offer single, double and triple or family rooms, free airport transfers, 24-hour room service, concierge service, business centres, free wi-fi, multi-cuisine restaurants, bars, recreation centres, business-board rooms and banquet halls. The board rooms and conference halls are fitted with modern equipments and usually have a capacity of around 300 guests to 500 guests. 

B. Hotels in Nagarkot & Dhulikhel

Nagarkot and Dhulikhel lie on the outskirts of Kathmandu, cocooned amidst verdant hills and secluded traditional villages. Because of their proximity to the capital, scenic location  and peaceful ambience, these two places serve as weekend getaways among Kathmanduites. Located just a few hours’ drive from Kathmandu, these two hill-stations feature quaint resorts offering accommodations in standard or deluxe rooms. Some resorts offer accommodations in cottages, villas or apartments. Most of these have their own private balconies that look out to the mountains and surrounding hill- top villages. While the more upscale resorts feature spa and Ayurvedic wellness centres and a spacious living area, all standard hotels offer 24-hour room service, concierge service, in-house restaurant and bar, and recreational facilities. Some resorts have conference and seminar halls fitted with the latest audio-visual equipments.     

C. Pokhara Hotels

As most tourists visit Pokhara for leisure, the hotels and resorts in this lakeside city have been designed to give optimum comfort and pleasure. The decor and architecture of many of these lakeside resorts blend harmoniously with the beautiful landscape. Most establishments strive to offer quality service, cultivating an ambience that is restful and stimulating to the senses.

1. Five Star Hotels

There are only two five star hotels in Pokhara – The Fulbari Resort & Spa and Pokhara Grande. These hotels offer more than 100 well-appointed spacious rooms. Categorized as deluxe, suites and premium suites, the rooms are luxurious and outfitted with modern amenities and conveniences. A traditional welcome with fresh flowers is accorded to each guest by hotel staff. For a fine dining experience, the hotels have more than two restaurants serving a special cuisine or multi-cuisine, a bar that serves premium liquor and beverages and a coffee shop or a patisserie. For business meets and large events, the hotels offer spacious and tastefully decorated indoor and outdoor space, with in-house catering. The conference halls and board rooms are fitted with state-of-the-art audio visual equipments and can easily accommodate 1000 delegates. The hotels provide complimentary high speed internet access and   business centers that have all the gadgets and equipments of a modern office.  Recreation facilities include spa and wellness centre, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, fitness studio, casino and golf course.

2. Four Star Hotels

Most four star hotels in Pokhara offer accommodation in cottages, villas or apartments. As most of these properties lie in the vicinity of Lake Phewa, they offer wonderful views of the lake and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Peak). The hotels offer accommodation in 40 to 60 well-appointed and comfortable rooms categorized as standard, double and family suite; 24-hour room service, concierge service, multi-cuisine restaurant, bar and recreation centre. These hotels have their own spa and salons, swimming pool, souvenir shop, travel desk and business centre. For business meetings and conferences, the hotels provide adequate space to accommodate 500 to 100 guests. The halls are fitted with modern audio-visual equipments.

3. Three Star Hotels

Three star establishments in Pokhara may be smaller than five or four star hotels and luxurious amenities may be lacking but the hotel staff do their best to offer premium services. Most three star hotels offer accommodation in standard, double and family rooms. The rooms feature round-the-clock room service, en suite bathrooms with free toiletries, multi-cuisine restaurant, bar, multi-lingual staff and recreation centre. Some properties feature business centre, conference and banquet halls capacity up to 300 guests), spas, wellness centers, Jacuzzi and infinity pools.

D. Lumbini Hotels

Though plans are underway to develop tourism infrastructure in Lumbini, as of now there are few hotels with resources to cater to large number of tour groups. There are just two or three hotels providing luxurious four and three star hotel amenities and conveniences. The larger and luxurious hotels can accommodate up to 70 guests in standard and deluxe rooms and suites.  The featured rooms come fitted with air conditioners, en suite bathrooms with complimentary toiletries. The hotels offer 24-hour service, multi-cuisine restaurant, bar, concierge service, travel desk, business centre and conference hall that can accommodate up to 250 guests.

A few hotels offer accommodations in Japanese style rooms and feature amenities and facilities like those offered by Japanese lodges (for example, tatami rooms, Japanese-style communal bath houses etc).

E. Chitwan Hotels

Most hotels and resorts in Chitwan lie near the Chitwan National Park. From luxury resorts to budget lodges, Chitwan offers a wide range of accommodation options. While luxury resorts offer accommodation in fully-serviced cottages, villas, apartments or tree-top houses, categorized as standard suites, deluxe suites and premium suites and fitted with all modern amenities and conveniences, other hotels offer accommodations in standard, deluxe or family rooms. Amenities in luxury resorts include 24-hour room service, multi-cuisine restaurant, concierge service, bar, jungle tours guided by expert naturalists or ornithologists, spas, Jacuzzis, swimming pool and complimentary internet access.  Standard hotels offer comfortable accommodation with 24 hour room service, in restaurants, bars and recreational and fitness centers. Only few hotels in Chitwan feature business centers and conference and meeting hall facilities.

F. Everest Region Hotels & Lodges

The rugged and difficult mountain terrain of Everest Region has not deterred hardy mountain business entrepreneurs from providing world-class accommodation to adventurers visiting the area. You may be in the middle of nowhere while trekking in the Everest Region, but rest assured a comfortable lodge or tea house will be within reach to rest your aching bones and muscles. One of the remotest and highest mountain regions in the world, Everest Region has some of the best deluxe lodges in the country. To find a mountain lodge above 3000 metres serving a full course dinner in a beautifully decorated dining hall and offering comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms, warm and hot showers, 24 hours service, and a grand view of the Himalayan mountains, is indeed a rarity. These upscale comfortable, spacious and tastefully decorated deluxe lodges could be ideal venues for events and product launches or a corporate incentive tour.
