Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu – Transfer to hotel

It’s a fantastic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a lovely sunny day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks that lie sprawling down below you is real exciting, beginning a whole connection of memorable experiences that stay with you for a very long time to come. And as your plane hits the tarmac of the airport, our waiting support team will meet and greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel in a chauffeured luxury sedan. Welcome drinks of your choice will be served and this begins your first overnight in ancient Kathmandu where temples, cows and a myriad of ancient arts abound in plentiful.
 
Day 2: Sightseeing of: Boudhanath, Pashupatinath & Patan

We begin our guided sightseeing tour with a visit to Boudhanath - the largest stupa in Nepal and a centrepoint of Tibetan culture in Kathmandu. The stupa is designed in the shape of a giant mandala (assumed to be a representation of the Buddhist cosmos). Our next destination is Pashupatinath Temple. This temple is dedicated to Hindu deity Shiva, regarded as the most sacred Hindu shrine in Nepal.
 
Hereabouts, visitors will get to see cremation rituals of Hindus at ‘Aryaghat’, the cremation area of the temple. Cremations here are done for Nepal’s royalty and the common man on the streets. Non hindus are not allowed to enter the main premises of the temple but you can sure get tantalizing glimpses of what’s happening within the main areas from the perimeter walls surrounding the temple. We next head down to Patan, which was once a strongly independent kingdom to itself, but now a simple suburb separated by a murky river from Kathmandu. Anyone who drops into this ancient town must visit Durbar Square which offers an assortment of wooden arts in the monumental historic complexes which reflect the architectural influences of a medieval age found all over the valley. Patan’s Durbar Square, arguably, possesses some of the most fascinating assortment of temples and palaces throughout the country. A unique spot of interests are the artistic wooden carvings depicting the sutras of Lord Kamadeva (god of sex) dotted throughout the big and small pagoda style temples in the by lanes of this old city. Patan Durbar Square is said to be among the richest culturally and historically of all the other durbar squares of the valley. At eventide, we’ll drive back to our hotel in the city for the night.
 
Day 3: Tour of Swayambhunath, Kumari Bahal [home of the living goddess] and Bhaktapur

We begin our sightseeing tour with a short drive to Swayambhunath or Monkey Temple. "Swayambhu" signifies "self-created" and a myth goes that the hill emerged spontaneously from the great lake that once covered Kathmandu Valley. This is one of the oldest Buddhist shrines in Asia; one highlight of this temple is the great views we get of the valley at dusk where from this quiet hillock its 360 degree view of the sparkling lights of the valley, its lovely to watch. The Swayambhunath stupa can be said to be one of the unique jewels on the crown of Kathmandu Valley’s architecture. This excellently designed monument leaves one wondering about its celestial perfection with its glimmering, gilded spire and snow-white dome. We next drive down to the ‘Kumari Bahal’ to see upfront the home of the living goddess. We even get to see her at her ‘window’ where she shows herself, but no pictures are allowed to be taken of the girl. But we can take pictures of the spectacular courtyard of the 3 storey house and the chariot that carries her around during major festivals. Our next stop is Bhaktapur. Spread over an area of 6.88 sq km, 12 km south-east of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur or Bhadgaon showcases the ancient grandiose of the Golden Age of Nepali art and architecture. Built by King Anand Dev Malla in the 9th century, the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. It has remained a model for heritage conservation since then.
 
At the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, you will find many fine examples of sculpture, woodcarving and pagodas dedicated to different gods and goddesses – the Nyatapol & Dattatreya Temples, the Golden Gate, Palace of 55 windows that also has marks of bullet penetrations that tells a tragic tale this once-upon-a-time independent kingdom. Another attraction are the erotic statues of the gods in the act of the ancient art of sex that we all know of as the ‘Kamasutra’’ At dusk, we drive down to our heritage hotel for the night.
 
Day 4: Final departure for your connecting flight home sweet home

We pull down the curtains on our ‘Luxury City Tour’ with a visit to the ‘Garden of Dreams’ for breakfast to reminisce on the wonders of this sublime tour of Nepal’s living history. While savoring our sumptuous breakfast, our eyes take in the classical art forms in this historical garden -- a place of ponds and lily pads, bright well trimmed green lawns and whispering palm trees, and something most welcome, quiet; amidst the sweet gentle chirping of birds that set our moods for the journey home.

Best Time to Visit

If you come to Nepal and have a flexible schedule, then take the time to visit these places.  Nepal always has something to offer its guests.  During the peak season (October to December) and (mid of February to May), the stunning panorama of the Himalayas is at its crisp-beautiful-best, but there is really no season in which Nepal is not a beautiful or pleasant place to visit.
