Trip Dossier

Day 1: Fly Kathmandu-Lhasa

From Kathmandu take a scenic flight to Lhasa. During the 1 and half hour flight catch mesmerizing views of Himalayan peaks and the arid nomadic highlands from aboard the plane. On reaching Lhasa Gongarr Airport you will be received by our representative and driven to your hotel in Lhasa. After you checking in, you will be briefed on your itinerary.

Day 2: Lhasa Sightseeing- Potala Palace, Norbulingka

After an early breakfast we commence our sightseeing tour and visit Potala Palace. The impressive 13-storied structure dominates Lhasa’s landscape. The palace served as the winter retreat of Dalai Lama. Potala Palace was built during the 7th century on the Marpo Ri (Red Mountain). Next we visit Norbulingka, the erstwhile summer retreat of the Dalai Lama. Inside Norbulingka are several palace complexes built by successive Dalai Lamas.  The palace grounds are dotted with beautiful landscaped gardens, ornamental pool, pavilions and chapels. 

Day 3: Sightseeing – Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Square

We continue our sightseeing tour and visit Sera Monastery. Sera Monastery, an important centre of learning of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect.  The monastery dates back to the 15th century and contains religious relics and murals. Later in the day we head to Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Market. Buddhism in Tibet spread after Jokhang Temple was built. The temple was built by King Songsten Gampo to house the idol of Lord Buddha brought by his Nepalese Queen Brikuti from Nepal. Barkhor Square, a busy local market surrounds this temple. Walk around and watch pilgrims prostrating or shop for souvenirs.

Day 4 AM: Tibetan Medical Institute, PM: Free

After an early breakfast we head to the Tibetan Medical Institute. Established in 1916, the institute imparts knowledge on the science of traditional Tibetan healing methods, astronomy and astrology. Also known as Mentsekhang, the institute offers treatment for various ailments and herbal medicines. After the tour, the rest of the day is free. Spend it as you wish. 

Day 5: Depart Lhasa

Depart Lhasa via air or overland. Our representative will drop you to the airport or to the point of departure.
