Trip Dossier

Day 1: Arrival Kathmandu – 1350m

Our office rep will meet you at Kathmandu International Airport and transfer you to your hotel; after you’ve refreshed, there will be a full tour/trek briefing in the evening. The same day you will also have an opportunity to meet your travel group before the final departure. Overnight at your hotel in the valley temples, probably the most in the world

Day 2: Free at your own leisure

After your first night in Kathmandu, you will be well informed on arrival about what to do in your next free day.

The choice is yours: either you can stroll around the nearby market on your own or you can opt for a half/full day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest. The cost for this extra tour is not added in the trek cost and you have to pay extra depending on the places you choose to visit. This extra tour gives you deep insights into Nepal’s iconic monuments that have been recognized by UNESCO as world heritage sites.  Sansui Treks will give you an orientation on your program & you will also get the opportunity to ask us any questions you may have regarding our upcoming adventure. When this is done, you might find time to shop around the city in the evening time if you need any gears for the trek. Overnight at your hotel

Day 3: Fly Kathmandu/Nepalgunj/Surkhet

We Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and drive to Surkhet (3hours). We walk north through the arid plateau paths that stretch up to Tibet. The trail is quite barren with jagged rocks and sand and is mostly flat, which makes it very easy going. This enjoyable start is at the same time quaint, with views of big peaks all around such as Dhaulagiri (8167m), Tukuche (6920m) and, in the west, the awesome mountain above Kagbeni-Nilgiri. Over to the south and southwest the entire Annapurna Massif can be seen. Overnight at our lodge

Day 4: Fly Surkhet/Simikot/Dharapuri

Today we Fly from Surkhet to Simikot (2900 meters) 45 minutes, and trek to Dharapuri in 4 hours. Once you are at Simikot, you feel like you are in a different realm because of the sudden rise in altitude and sudden fall in temperature. To leave behind the scorching hot climate and be in a tiny mountain village, breathing cool, fresh air gives you an adrenaline rush as well as a stimulating feeling. We then start our trek to Dharapuri. We pass through a pine forest where we see local Hindu and Buddhist people in their traditional attire accompanied by their herds of cattle. The cattle carry the load for the people in this part of the world because there are no other modes of transport. We camp out at Dharapuri (2300 meters)

Day 5: Trek Dharapuri/Kermi

We Trek to Kermi in 4 hours. Today we start our trail following the Karnali River. We walk along the fields cultivated mainly with barley, buckwheat, rice and potatoes. In the afternoon we relax in natural hot springs. Kermi is a small agricultural, Buddhist village. We visit two interesting, ancient Buddhist monasteries close to Kermi; Laikyo Gompa and Lhundrup Choeling Gompa. We camp out at Kermi (2670 meters) for the night

Day 6: Trek Kermi/Yalbang

We hike to Yalbang in 5 hours. Trekking to Yalbang is a flat & steep ascent until reaching a small pass and crossing an iron suspension bridge over the Sali River. From here there are beautiful pine trees & the emerald Karnali downhill. We will visit Namkha Khyung Dzong Monastery and a clinic in the monastery. Yalbang is an interesting place at (3020 meters), we set up our camp hereabouts.

Day 7: Trek Yalbang/Tumkot

We plod to Tumkot in 5 hours. The path leaves the Karnali River below when it reaches the tiny village of Yangar. The greenery begins to vanish and so do the smaller bushes. They give way to pine trees and rocky hills. In the afternoon, after reaching Tumkot, we visit Dhungkar Choezom Monastery, one of the most important Sakya monasteries in the Tibetan region. We camp out at Tumkot (3380 meters) for the night

Day 8: Trek Tumkot/Yari

We Trek up to Yari in 5 hours. It will not be long before you feel the change in climate, vegetation and landscape. After a few miles of hiking, the change begins to make its mark. The landscape becomes more rocky and desolate. The trees that you see are not pine trees anymore. They are now short and low junipers. We bunk out at Yari (3700 meters) for the night

Day 9: Trek Yari/Hilsa

We go above the treelines to Hilsa via Nara La (4,620 m) in 6 hours. Today is a tough day as we cross the first pass of the trek. The trees are gone by now and the landscape looks more like that of Tibet. After crossing the 4,620m Nara La pass, we will be instantly captivated by the breathtaking views of Tibet on the one side and spectacular view of Yari Village down below. We will find barren mountains in brown, copper, ash and dark yellow colors as far as you can see. From here on, it is a wobbly descent down until we find ourselves standing in the border of Nepal and Tibet.(3720 meters). We camp out at Hilsa for the night

Day 10: Trek Hilsa/Manepeme

We Trek down to Manepeme in 5 hours. A big iron bridge bids you adieu from Hilsa. This trail follows the Karnali River in the eastern direction up to Manepeme. The path then climbs gradually with a few steep up and downs. You walk in a dramatic landscape of bare, steep rocks of amazing colors. We set up camp at Manepreme (3900 meters) for the night

Day 11: Trek Manepeme/Til

We Trek up again to Til in 6 hours. The trail climbs on and winds its way through the high, steep rocks. Between a small and wider path, we follow the small path as it passes a meditation cave, Ya Yip Phuk. The trail is teeming with lush and green vegetation. We can find rampant juniper trees along the way, with some other shorter bushes. By the time we arrive at Til, we will find the environment has gotten green veils. The soil is fertile and the village is surrounded by birch trees and terraced barley fields. We can view two beautiful snow-capped mountains with impressive glaciers towering above the village. Til is one of the most beautiful Tibetan villages in Limi Valley. The gateway to the village is a chörten. The villagers still wear their traditional dresses. We camp out at Til (4000 meters) to rest our bodies for the night

Day 12: Trek Til/Jang

We Trek down to Jang, via Halji (3,660m) in Limi Valley in 7 hours. We enter the Halji village passing a gate with chörten, after which a very big mani wall or, low wall with many stones in which holy mantra’s and Buddhist deities are carved, appears. In the afternoon, we visit ancient Rinchenling Gompa, a clinic, a micro-hydro power plant and solar plant close to the village. Then we move to Jang village. It’s very special to be in such a secluded place where the Tibetan culture still continues relatively untouched, as far from the modern day world as it can be. We camp out at Jang (3930 meters)

Day 13: Jang

Today its Acclimatization day. Today is an acclimatization day which gives us time for a sightseeing tour or an excursion towards the village of Jang. It’s a wonderful day to explore and learn about Tibetan culture in this part of the world. Overnight at Jang

Day 14Trek Jang/Talung

Today we trek up to Talung in 8 hours. During this trail, there won’t be any more villages until Kermi and you will be walking through impressive, completely desolate stark landscapes. The trail remains slow and steady and goes up until Talung at (4370 meters) where we set up camp for the night

Day 15: Trek Talung/Shinjungma

Trek to Shinjungma via Nyalu La (4,949m) in 8 hours. Today is the second spectacular pass of our trek. Even it’s very tough, yet rewarding climb to the highest point of the trek, the Nyalu La, at 4,940 meters. From the pass you have a breathtaking 360 degree view into Humla and Tibet, with the glimpse of glorious mountains like Mount Saipal (7,031m), and Mount Kailash (6,714m) that make you want to push the limits. The path climbs down after you are beyond and across the pass. Getting lower, the nature changes dramatically and suddenly you see trees. (3690 meters)

Day 16: Trek Shinjungma/Kermi

We Trek downwards to Kermi in 7 hours. It’s a pleasant walk through pine and birch forests and along the beautiful Sali Khola, with rocks towering on both sides of the trail. You can relax a little bit here and dip your drained body into the hot springs for some quickfire rejuvenation. In the afternoon we visit Laikyo Gompa and Lhundrup Choeling Gompa. We next set up camp at Kermi (2670 meters) for the night

Day 17: Trek Kermi/Simikot

It’s a cool Trek to Simikot in 7 hours. Our day begins with few up and downs along the road until we reach Simikot.  We bunk out at our lodge in Simikot (2950 meters)

Day 18: Fly Simikot/Kathmandu

The rest of your day is free to explore Kathmandu and its shops as you wish. (1350 meters) it’s your day to do as you wish. Overnight at your hotel

Day 19: Departure for the place we’d love to call ‘Home’’

After you’ve done with all your packing and last minute shopping, our company representative and a vehicle will be on standby at your hotel to escort you to the airport for your connecting flight home.

Trip Information

Accommodation

A ‘Camping trek’ is a term used for sleeping in tents. The tents we provide are ‘Two men or couple domes’ or ‘A’ shaped. A foam mattress with insulation underneath is used for sleeping. Clients need to have their own sleeping bag. Bags or cloth packs are used as pillows. It’s a matter of choice, if you want, you bring your own ‘Air pillow’ and freak out anyways, and this is adventure in the wild…the rougher it gets the better.

We have a pool of hotels in Kathmandu under 3 Star categories which we provide to clients in connection with this program, unless it is mentioned otherwise or clients have a choice of their own. You can check on the description of such hotels through our website. Accommodation is never a problem, the choice exclusively yours.

Dining

At ‘Incentive Holidays’ – its zero tolerance on cutting of cost when it comes down to feeding our trekking guests, because we know how tough it is on the trails; we provide three tasty, bountiful and nutritious meals daily with a variety of local and Western dishes. To start the day, breakfast is ‘king size’ [the first meal of the day] consisting of a choice of porridge, muesli and cereals followed by omelet, fried or scrambled eggs with chapattis or bread. Lunch is generally a selection of salad, cooked vegetable dishes, pasta and traditional breads.

After a lengthy gritty day on the trail, dinner is a hearty 3 course meal - soup, followed by a variety of vegetables, meat, rice and pasta dishes completed with a simple dessert. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are also provided at all meals. We use as much fresh produce as possible and special diets are regularly catered for. The local trek leaders are able to maintain very tight controls on health and hygiene in the kitchen with respect to general cleanliness and food preparation and also within the group with respect to personal hygiene. This has allowed us to maintain extremely high standards of health over many years of planning treks - and good health is vital to an enjoyable and successful trek and climb. All foods are well cooked and vegetables are treated by potassium permanganate or iodine. Boiled water is served for drinking. Antiseptic soaps and potassium or iodine treated water are provided for washing. Special dietary requirements can always be catered for. ‘Gluttony is a sin’ but there are no restrictions on the grub we serve to our guests on the mountains; we leave it up to our trekking guests who are the best judge of their own appetites.
