Day 2: After breakfast visit Nomobuddha for celebration Buddha purnima

It’s a new day and after breakfast, we get set for our tour of Namo Buddha, a hilltop Buddhist shrine, located about 40km from the city. Legend has it that Lord Buddha in his previous birth saved a dying tigress and her cubs from starvation by offering to feed them with his own flesh. According to local legend his bones are enshrined in an old Buddhist stupa that lies at the top of the hill. We visit this stupa, circumambulate around it and light incense and butter lamps. Take pictures and enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. Visit a Tibetan monastery (Thrangu Tashe Yangste Monastery) located nearby.

Day 3: After breakfast visit Swoyambhu, Boudha and Patan ( Golden temple)

After breakfast, we head Swoyambhunath Temple. Located on a hilltop, Swoyambhunath is regarded as the first temple in Kathmandu valley. According to local folklore, the Bodhisattva Manjushri built a temple here after draining the water that inundated Kathmandu valley. There are Buddhist monasteries and Hindu temples in the vicinity of the stupa. Enjoy a 360 degree view of Kathmandu Valley from the temple.

Later we proceed to to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. A protected UNESCO World Heritage Site, Boudhanath Stupa is regarded as the most important centre of Tibetan Buddhism outside Tibet. Buddhists believe that the remains of Kasyapa Buddha (Lord Buddha’s previous incarnation) were interred at the spot where the stupa is built. Later, drive to Patan Durbar Square. Patan is one of the three medieval cities in the valley. Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site houses a palace complex dating back to the Malla dynasty and several Hindu and Buddhist shrines. We will visit a Buddhist temple Hiranya Varna Maha Vihar, also known as Golden Temple, Patan palace which houses a museum, Mahaboudha – a 14th century Buddhist temple made of terracotta bricks engraved with images of Lord Buddha.
