Trip Dossier

Day 1: Arrival Kathmandu at the Tribhuwan International Airport

You will find our representative awaiting your arrival by displaying a plastic board with your name highlighted in large letters on the board.  Our office vehicle will be parked at the airport to pick you up and drop you to your designated hotel. On reaching your hotel, enjoy your welcome drinks and refresh. Our senior trek leader will later meet you at the lobby of your hotel to brief you on the details of your trek. Get familiar with your surroundings, have supper and get rid of the jet lag with a good night sleep. Your first overnight in the valley of temples, probably the most in the world.

Day 2: Free at your own leisure

After your first night in Kathmandu, you will be well informed on arrival about what to do in your next free day.

The choice is yours: either you can stroll around the nearby market on your own or you can opt for a half/full day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest. The cost for this extra tour is not added in the trek cost and you have to pay extra depending on the places you choose to visit. This extra tour gives you deep insights into Nepal’s iconic monuments that have been recognized by UNESCO as world heritage sites.  Sansui Treks will give you an orientation on your program & you will also get the opportunity to ask us any questions you may have regarding our upcoming adventure. When this is done, you might find time to shop around the city in the evening time if you need any gears for the trek. Overnight at your hotel

Day 3: Kathmandu to Syabru Besi [1400m]

From Kathmandu, we take a 9 - hour scenic drive to Syabru Besi, a little trading town for the Langtang area. After driving for 30 km, we approach pristine villages on the banks of the river Trishuli. We also get to view the enthralling panorama of the Himalaya, including the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and peaks of the Langtang region. Overnight at your lodge

Day 4: Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel [2748m] 5-6 hrs

The first part of the trail crosses through the Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola. This trail is a gradual ascent up to Bamboo passing through landslide zones. Afterwards, we trek down gently to Rimche (2400m.) through Bamboo (1960m.) which lies at the banka of Langtang Khola. En-route we can see red pandas, playful monkeys and bears if you are lucky. Stay overnight at our lodge.

Day 5: Trek to Langtang village [3500m] – 6 hrs reckoned

After breakfast, we continue climbing amidst occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. At Ghora Tabela [3000m], the trail emerges from the forest. While walking hereabouts, we get to observe playful white monkeys enjoying themselves and hear the sweet chirping of merry local birds. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months. There is a monastery we can visit shortly before arriving at the village of Langtang, the headquarters of the Langtang National Park. The houses of Langtang and its neighboring villages are of the flat-roofed Tibetan style, surrounded by stone walls enclosing fields of buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley. Stay overnight at our lodge.

Day 6: Trek to Kyangjing [3800m] – 3 hrs

The trail skirts gradually through rich yak pastures and interesting customary villages of Muna to Singdun. We cross a wooden cantilever bridge and reach a wide valley after climbing a moraine. Finally, on ascending the mountain passes, we arrive at Kyangjing Gompa. There is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory hereabouts. We can sample some of the fresh cheese down here. Overnight at our lodge

Day 7: A day for rest in Kyangjing

We take a day off for acclimatization and a proper rest. Reckon this is good for the body and the limbs. We get to explore interesting places like the monastery, cheese factory etc. We can climb Kyangjin Ri located at 4350m from where great views of snow-capped mountains are spread out in wonderful display right next to you. We can walk up the moraine to see the spectacular mountain ridges and undulating glaciers. Overnight at our lodge

Day 8: Kyangjin Gomba - Ngegang [4000m] - 6 hours

The trail ascends and is found high and dry on the higher Himalayan elevations where there is no vegetation and cultivation, so we don’t have any lodges hereabouts. Overnight in tented camps

Day 9: Ngegang-Keldang [4300m] via Ganja La at [5122m] - 7 hours

Today is the most challenging part of this whole trip as you need to cross the Ganja La Pass at an elevation of 5122m. Climbing up and down the pass can sometimes be a tricky and risky experience due to snowfall and ice. From the pass, we descend down to Keldang. At Ganja la, the views are simply mesmerising and your video cams will go on overdrive with the views experienced hereabouts; in most cases you may find the pass covered by ice almost throughout the year. Overnight in tented camps

Day 10: Keldang-Dukpu [4080m], - 7 hours

After a sunny breakfast and some steaming piping hot coffee we embark upon a lengthy day hike along the dry Himalayan ridge that include marvelous Mountain views of this region and a campsite within the forest. Overnight in tented camps

Day 11: Dukpu -Tarkeghyang [2560m] - 6 hours

Today we Climb over a 4000m ridge and then descend 200meters to get to Tarkeghyang, an old traditional Sherpa Village on the Helambu trail. Descending through pine, oak and rhododendron forests passing by local herders huts and pasture land. Overnight in tented camps

Day 12: Tarkeghyang – Sermathang [2610m] - 5 hours trekking

From Tarkeghyang the trail leads to the pretty village of Gangwal, 2500m where we find a small but very fine and serene monastery. The trek for today is much more easily going and is almost flat after Gangwal village to Sermathang village which is another fascinating Sherpa village in Helambu region where there’s another beautiful old monastery.

Day 13: Sermathang - Melamchi Bazaar, 870m – Kathmandu - 4 hrs trekking, 2 hrs bus

Today its pretty easy going and all relaxed, we only descend down to the main Melamchi Pul {bridge} Bazaar with numerous Sherpa villages strewn along the trail and go to our waiting bus for our scenic drive down to Katmandu.

Trip Information

Accommodation

A ‘TH [Teahouse Lodge] is a term used for sleeping in teahouse lodges on the trails. These teahouses are pretty basic but provide all the comforts that you would expect when hiking in remote conditions, they are cosy and warm – you’d like the homely environment. We crash out in single rooms wherever available, but often times we sometimes have to adapt to sleeping out in dormitory type rooms for a night. Generally, it’s just a bed with a pillow and blankets. It’s a matter of choice, if you want, you bring your own ‘Air pillow’ and freak out anyways, and this is adventure in the wild…the rougher it gets the better. We accommodate our trek groups in local lodges available each day. Our porters hike ahead of us to book the required rooms for the group (rooms cannot be booked in advance). Please note, that some of them are very basic and a spirit of adventure is the call of the day. It is cheaper to stay in lodges rather than organizing a camping trek.

We have a pool of hotels in Kathmandu under 3 Star categories which we provide to clients in connection with this itinerary, unless it is mentioned otherwise or clients have a special choice. You can check on the description of such hotels through our website. Accommodation is never a problem, the choice exclusively yours.

Dining

At ‘Incentive Holidays’ – its zero tolerance on cutting of cost when it comes down to feeding our trekking guests, because we know how tough it is on the trails; we ensure that the lodges provide three tasty, bountiful and nutritious meals daily with a variety of local and Western dishes. To start the day, breakfast is ‘king size’ [the first meal of the day] consisting of a choice of porridge, muesli and cereals followed by omelet, fried or scrambled eggs with chapattis or bread. Lunch is generally a selection of salad, cooked vegetable dishes, pasta and traditional breads.

After a lengthy gritty day on the trail, dinner is a hearty 3 course meal - soup, followed by a variety of vegetables, meat, rice and pasta dishes completed with a simple dessert. Don’t be surprised if the delectable ‘apple pie’ lands on your plate, it’s literally‘yummy’’, even better than the ones you come across in Thamel. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are also provided at all meals. We use as much fresh produce as possible and special diets are regularly catered for. The local trek leaders are able to maintain very tight controls on health and hygiene in the kitchen with respect to general cleanliness and food preparation and also within the group with respect to personal hygiene.
