Day 2: Kathmandu- Visit Pashupatinath Temple & Budha Neelkantha

We begin our pilgrimage tour with a visit to one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva Pashupatinath Temple. Lying on the banks of the holy river Bagmati, Pashupatinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva’s incarnation as the protector of all living beings or ‘pashus’.  Pay obeisance at His shrine and ask for His blessings. After visiting other temples in the vicinity, we head towards Budha Neelkantha or Narayanthan, to the shrine of the ‘Sleeping Vishnu’ or Jalakshayan Narayan. Lying at the bottom of the Shivpuri Hills, the enormous statue of Lord Vishnu, carved from a single rock is one of the most ancient and grandest statues of Lord Vishnu.  The statue, which dates back to the Licchavi era, has a reclining Vishnu, surrounded by the twisting coils of Sheshnaag(cosmic serpent),half-immersed in a large tank of water (signifying the cosmic ocean).

Day 3: Kathmandu- Visit Patan Durbar Square, Baglamukhi Temple & Bishankhu Narayan Temple (Godavari)

Today we visit the holy Hindu shrines located inside Patan Durbar Square, a royal palace complex dating back to medieval times. We will pay obeisance at Krishna Temple, Kumbeshwor Temple and visit the temple of Baglamukhi Mai, a short walk away from Patan Durbar Square. Locals believe that visiting the shrine of the goddess on a Thursday leads to wish fulfillment. After prayers, we will drive to Bishankhu Narayan Temple. Located towards the south-eastern end of the city, the temple lies in a wooded area. Covered by a chain mail, the idol of Lord Vishnu is placed inside a cave. This is one of the most important shrines in the valley dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Day 4: Kathmandu – Visit Bhaktapur (Changu Narayan Temple, Doleshwar Mahadev Temple), Kailashnath Mahadev Statue

Today we head towards Bhaktapur- the medieval ‘City of Devotees.’ A scenic drive brings us to Changunarayan Temple, the oldest shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the valley. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple has some of the oldest religious relics (engravings and statues) found in the valley. The oldest inscription in Kathmandu, which dates back to 464 AD, is carved on a pillar at the courtyard of Changu Narayan Temple. Next on our stop is an important shrine of Lord Shiva - Doleshwar Mahadev Temple. Located in Sipadol, Bhaktapur, the shrine which is directly linked to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. While in Kedarnath  the torso of Lord Shiva’s incarnation as a bull is worshipped, in Doleshwor Mahadev is enshrined the head. In 2009 the head priest of Kedarpeeth, Shri Jagatguru Bheemashankarling Shivacharya performed the ‘Rudra Abhishek’ of Doleshwar Temple. After puja, we pay a visit to the tallest statue of Lord Shiva in the world, Kailashnath Mahadev (144 feet/44 metres).

Day 5: Kathmandu – Visit Pharping – Shesh Narayan Temple, Dakshinkali Temple

Our pilgrimage tour takes us to the southern edge of the valley, to the ancient village of Pharping. After a scenic drive we reach the temple of Shesh Narayan. One of the important shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple dates back to the seventeenth century.

After visiting Shesh Narayan’s shrine, we head to Dakshinkali temple, which lies nearby. Known as a wish-fulfilling goddess, Dakshinkali Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Animal sacrifices are offered to the goddess, to appease Her and to ask Her to grant Her devotees’ wishes.

Evening, enjoy a traditional Nepali feast and a lively Nepali cultural programme.
